Atul Bali is the founder and CEO of Competitive Green Technologies, (CGTech) a Leamington ON based bio-polymer compounding company. CGTech works closely with the University of Guelph's BDDC to take price-performance-process competitive bio-composite resins to market.


Alan Blake, Executive Director, PACNEXT
Alan Blake is the Executive Director of PAC NEXT, an initiative of PAC, Packaging Consortium, with a vision of A World without Packaging Waste. He joined PAC NEXT Sept 2012 after 30 yrs. working at Procter & Gamble including 20 yrs. of global packaging design and development expertise. He also led P&G's global packaging sustainability program with a focus on the 2020 goals and long term packaging sustainability vision. He was recently appointed to the collaborative board of the National Zero Waste Council for Canada with a focus on waste reduction and prevention.


David Bowyer, Chief Executive Officer and President, Tapp Label Company
David Bowyer is the CEO for Tapp Label Company. David has extensive international label printing experience and has been an advisory senior executive and consultant to the world’s leading printing companies that focus on key industries such as wine, spirits, beverage, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and household products. In 2014 Bowyer began making his own acquisitions. He acquired Tapp Technologies and took the well-branded Tapp name to form the Tapp Label Company. Metro Label is the most recent acquisition bringing a wide variety of depth to new markets, talent and cutting edge technology. Today he oversees the enterprise comprised of 270 employees in 6 production locations in North America.


Malcolm Brodie, Chair, National Zero Waste Council and Chair, Metro Vancouver Zero Waste Committee
Malcolm Brodie has been a Board Director and Chair of the National Zero Waste Council since its inception in October 2013. He has also been a member of Council for the City of Richmond since 1996, and following a by-election, he was sworn in as Mayor on October 29, 2001. Mayor Brodie was re-elected on November 16, 2002, November 19, 2005, November 15, 2008, November 19, 2011, and November 15, 2014. Malcolm Brodie has been appointed by his Council to the Board of Directors of Metro Vancouver and he currently is the Chair of the Zero Waste Committee and also serves on the Intergovernmental & Finance Committee, the Mayors' Committee, the Performance & Procurement Committee, and the Federal Gas Tax Task Force. He represents Metro Vancouver on the Municipal Finance Authority, and in 2015, was elected as Chair. Before election to Council, Mayor Brodie was a practicing lawyer and had a long record of service to Richmond in the volunteer community.


Ken Brooks, Senior VP and Partner, Ernst & Young
Ken, a well experienced professional in Transaction Advisory Services practicing in EY’s Lead Advisory (M&A) practice. Over the past 20+ years Ken has provided a range of transaction advisory services relating to mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings and joint ventures to established and entrepreneurial growth companies, private and public, locally and globally. Ken is a regular key-note speaker at leading international packaging conferences on the subject of sector M&A activity, strategy and global macro-economic developments.


Elisabeth Comere, Director Environment & Government Affairs US/ Canada, Tetra Pak Inc.
Elisabeth Comere serves as Director Environment at Tetra Pak US & Canada. Tetra Pak is the world leader in packaging and food processing solutions. She joined the company in 2006 as Environment Manager for Europe where she helped define and drive Tetra Pak's environment strategy and contributed shaping recycling for cartons in Europe. Since 2010, she is based in the US, focusing on advancing the Tetra Pak's commitment to sustainability and recycling in the US and Canada. She is a founding member and board member of AMERIPEN and a member of The Sustainability Consortium, US business Council for Sustainable Development (USBCSD) and PAC. She is also contributing in the roll-out of the recycling strategy developed by the Carton Council in the US and Canada serving as Vice-President Government Affairs.


Christina Cvetan. Customer Packaging Global Capability, Unilever R&D
Christina has worked at Unilever in R&D Packaging for over 16 years supporting the Health and Beauty, Homecare, Refreshments and Foods categories. In her current Innovating Retail role, Christina is responsible for developing capabilities through innovation and technology partnerships that can be applied globally across regions, categories and customer channels. Inspired and influenced by the circular economy systemic approach, she believes by working in partnership we can bring new ideas to life and make our world a much better place today and into the future. Christina is a graduate of the Mohawk College Packaging Technology program.


Jeff Davis, VP Account Director, Davis
Whether at work, at home, or on the ice, Jeff does everything with passion and integrity. Jeff strives to bring out the best in everyone. He joined Davis 10 years ago after working in consumer and physician marketing with Anderson DDB. At Davis, he has supported Tier 1 clients across a number of categories including beverages, food, confectionery, pharmaceuticals and alcohol. Jeff has led many award-winning projects. He brings together strengths in consumer research, brand strategy and design to help build clients’ brands.


James D Downham, President & CEO, PAC, Packaging Consortium
Since 2006 Jim Downham has been advancing the packaging industry agenda as the President & CEO for the not-for-profit, PAC, Packaging Consortium. Prior to PAC Jim spent his career in the manufacturing of package materials/containers rising to the level of CEO of a $175 million multi-plant North American packaging leader. In 2000 Jim founded LeaderLinx, a packaging industry consultant. In November 2014 Jim reached the pinnacle of his career when he was inducted into the Packaging Hall of Fame in Chicago, Illinois.


Keith Fanta, Packaging Sustainability Head, Procter $ Gamble
Keith Fanta has worked at Procter & Gamble for 14 years in R&D covering product development, business franchise and packaging development and design. He is currently working in the global packaging sustainability organization where he leads a global network of packaging engineers. This network provides support to all P&G businesses to help them create plans to achieve P&G's 2020 sustainability goals. He is the internal consultant on all things related to packaging sustainability.


Mike Ferrari, Founder, Ferrari Innovation Solutions, llc
Mike Ferrari is the founder of Ferrari Innovation Solutions, llc. He is a brand-packaging consultant coaching corporate leaders and guest lecture professor at the University of Florida Packaging Engineering College. Michael Goeres, Executive Director, Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment
As Executive Director of the CCME, Michael Goeres is responsible for guiding collaborative intergovernmental work as directed by federal, provincial and territorial ministers of environment. This work addresses some of Canada’s most pressing environmental issues, including climate change, air, water and soil quality, and waste.


Peter Kallai, President & CEO, intelliFLEX
Peter Kallai is the Founding Executive Director of the intelliFLEX. He is also the President and CEO of KEYSTEP Growth & Finance. This Ottawa-based boutique consulting firm has focused on emerging technologies for 20 years. As a senior high-tech management consultant, Peter has assisted leading companies in optical and wireless communications, software and earth observation with their growth plans and financing. He has been involved with the inception, growth, exit and merger or acquisition of more than 40 companies. In the role of Vice-President, he helped a TSX-listed company grow from $3.2 million to over $100 million in revenue. Peter has also served on various boards and committees of companies and public sector R&D organizations. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and a Masters in Business Administration Degree (MBA) in Strategy and Finance. Peter is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) with the Project Management Institute (US).


Stephen Kaufman, Chief Product Officer, Bluesoftware, LLC
Stephen Kaufman is a visionary leader able to connect technology enablers to real business challenges in user-friendly ways. He is passionate about packaging design, automation tools and is helping to create a new vision for enterprise brand execution in the digital age. Stephen directs the product roadmap and product vision for BlueSoftware, addressing such pressing client business issues as packaging globalization, efficiency and metric driven measures, design and execution supply chain integration, process automation and technology integration for artwork creation.


David Luttenberger, CPP, Global Packaging Director, Mintel Group Ltd.
David Luttenberger is the Global Packaging Director at Mintel Group, Ltd., the leading market intelligence service serving the global CPG and packaging converter markets. In this role David leads a team seasoned packaging analysts and helps guide the global packaging-related research efforts at Mintel. His “consumer-to-concept” perspectives and insights on consumer trends, packaging innovations, responsible packaging, smart/active packaging, mobile marketing for packaging, and the general business of packaging across multiple formats and end-use categories have been featured in keynote presentations around the world. In 2015, David has presented to nearly 80 global CPG, converter and brand-owner and packaging design firms on four continents on the transition from disruptive packaging innovation to solutions-based innovation.


Alexander Manu. Professor, OCAD
Alexander Manu Is a strategic innovation practitioner, international lecturer and author. He provides strategic counsel and future based advisory to executive teams in Fortune 500 companies in industries as diverse as consumer packaged goods, media, advertising, mobile communications and manufacturing. Alexander lectures around the world on innovation, imagination, change agents and strategic foresight. He is a Senior Partner at InnoSpa International Partners, Teaches “Innovation, Foresight and Business Design” at the Rotman School of Management, is a Professor at the OCAD University in Toronto and a visiting lecturer at the Wallace McCain Institute for Entrepreneurship.


Al Metauro, CEO, Cascades Recovery
Albino Metauro has been Chief Executive Officer since the inception of the company. He is one of the two founding partners, and has been involved in every aspect of the business since its beginnings in 1979. He is responsible for the overall development and growth of the company by providing corporate direction that is focused on the recovery of discarded materials. Most notably he first introduced the company’s tag line “Maximum Recovery...Minimum Waste” twelve years ago. In keeping with the times, his most recent contribution is the company’s re-branding from Metro Waste Paper Recovery Inc. to Cascades Recovery Inc. and the introduction of Recovery …PLUS.


Ryan N. Modlin Vice President, North American Government Affairs, O-I
Ryan Modlin is Vice President, North American Government Affairs. Ryan joined O-I in March, 2011. Ryan is an experienced government affairs executive with broad experience in various federal and state level government relations. Areas of focus include: energy, government funding, manufacturing, tax, and trade. Ryan is a senior lobbyist for O-I and is responsible for O-I's outreach to the Administration and the United States Congress. Ryan also represents O-I in various government affairs activities including working with non-governmental organizations, industry and trade associations and other constituencies to develop support for O-I’s government affairs priorities. Prior to his current position with O-I, Ryan was responsible for Government Affairs at the National Association of Manufacturers in Washington, D.C., where he led the associations lobbying efforts on Capitol Hill on issues important to the industrial and manufacturing sectors, developed in-depth knowledge on issues before the U.S. Congress, including: energy, infrastructure, tax, and trade policy.


Jeffrey Moore, Council Co-chair General Sales Manager, Atlantic Packaging - Retail Packaging and Displays Division
Jeffrey has over twenty years of packaging sales experience and has worked with some of Canada’s largest Food, Beverage and CPG companies. Jeffrey joined Atlantic Packaging Products in 2002 where he has held positions in multiple divisions. He took on his latest role as General Sales Manager at Atlantic’s Decorative Packaging and Display division (Add Ink) in 2014. Jeffrey and his team look to Innovation, Sustainability and Cradle to Cradle life cycles as being key drivers to their customer’s future success. Add Ink has won numerous awards for bringing Creative and Innovative solutions to it’s customer’s retail programs through Structural Design, Print and Leading Edge Technologies.


Rachel Morier, Program Manager, PACNEXT
Rachel Morier is the Program Manager of PAC NEXT, working closely with project-focused committees to facilitate the convergence of ideas and identify sustainable solutions that lead to A World Without Packaging Waste. Prior to her work with PAC NEXT, she worked as a Project Manager for a global brand management company where she consulted with Fortune 500 consumer packaged goods clients regarding customized digital solutions to facilitate paperless workflows and thereby reducing waste.


Dave Rodgerson, Retail Industry Leader, Microsoft Canada
Dave Rodgerson plays a senior business development role at Microsoft Canada focused on the Retail, CPG and Hospitality industries. Mr. Rodgerson is a Retail industry expert in sales, marketing, operations, IT and strategic planning roles. Mr. Rodgerson works closely with both clients and industry associations that share an interest in enhancing the consumer experience. His work has included consulting with such firms as Tesco supermarkets in the UK, Canadian Tire Corporation, Target Department Stores, Imperial Tobacco, Walmart Canada and Rogers Communications. Dave has been speaking about social media innovation, the Omni Channel customer experience and the adoption of new technologies by consumers.


Sam Salem, Strategic Capabilities, Jabil Packaging Solutions - a Division of Nypro
Sam Salem is the Senior Director of the Internet-of-Things (IoT) Strategic Capabilities within Jabil’s Digital Office. Sam is responsible for the innovation, incubation and technology development of the Connected Devices (IoT) portfolio of products at Jabil Blue Sky Center of Innovation in San Jose, California. Sam overseas the Strategic Capability investments across key IoT ecosystem technology areas ranging from Wireless and connectivity technologies, Sensor technologies, Energy Harvesting technology solutions, to complex systems development and integrations. Sam’s career spans 27+ years in high-technology product innovations and developments, with more than nine years leading technology and engineering teams at Jabil. Sam holds a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with concentration in Digital Communication Theory and Systems, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering, both from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

John Scott, JMScott Management Services Inc.
John F.T. Scott is an economist, consultant and speaker specializing in the Food Distribution and Retail sector. In mid-2013 he stepped down as CEO of Canada’s largest retail grocery association (The Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers) a position he held for 22 years. He currently analyzes strategies and frequently speaks on Canada’s food industry to public and private companies, government, trade associations, universities, processing groups and primary producers. He is renowned for weaving the preferences of the evolving consumer into the dynamics of the industry. John is one of only three individuals who have received both of the highest recognitions in Canada’s retail food industry - the Golden Pencil and the Spirit of the Independent Award.


Russell J. Schwartz, Chief Technology Officer, Sun Chemical Corporation
Russell J. Schwartz is the Chief Technology Officer, Sun Chemical Corporation. Russell earned both his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemistry from the State University of New York at Albany. He started with Sun Chemical in 1981 as a Research Chemist and progressed through a series of technical management positions before being appointed Vice President, Colors Technology in 2002. In 2011, Russell was promoted to Chief Technology Officer. Russell has co-authored technical publications on particle size analysis and the properties of interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs). He has received 24 U.S. patents for his work in pigments and dispersants during his career with Sun Chemical, with several more pending. He has lectured at Lehigh University for their advanced course on pigment technology. Additionally, in 2005 he received NAPIM’s Technical Associate Member (TAM) Service Award.


John Snow, Innovating Retail, R&D Customer Packaging, Unilever
Starting as an intern with Lever Brothers in Canada in 1990 for the next 26 years John has worked in various local, regional and global packaging and innovation roles for Unilever. The last eleven years have been spent building and developing a R&D customer packaging function within the global business. Unique to CPG companies this R&D based role focuses on bringing latest technologies, innovations, processes and science to the packaging solutions that influence performance and deliver value for our customer base – to store and in store.


Laura Studwell, Marketing Manager, Omron Automation
Laura Studwell is the Food, Beverage and Packaging Industry Marketing Manager for Omron, a provider of automation and safety products. She has a strong background in the food and packaging industries working with associations and governing bodies throughout the Pan-Americas to drive standards for food safety and quality. Studwell received her MBA from Northern Illinois University and is an active member of PMMI, serving on the Emerging Leaders Committee. She is also a member of the Packaging Association of Canada, serving on the Ontario Region Leadership Council.


Tom Szaky, Founder & CEO, TerraCycle
Tom Szaky is the Founder and CEO of TerraCycle, an international leader in the collection and repurposing of difficult-to-recycle post-consumer and post-industrial waste. Across 21 countries, TerraCycle collects and repurposes billions of pieces of waste, creating millions of dollars of donations for schools and charities in the process. Many of the world’s largest consumer products companies contract with TerraCycle to collect and recycle the products and packaging they produce. Through TerraCycle, Tom has pioneered a process, involving manufacturers, retailers, and consumers, to create circular solutions for waste that otherwise would go to landfill or be incinerated.
